James E. Mitchell (of counsel)


Jim is of counsel to Becker Gurian.  Jim has practiced environmental law since 1997, with extensive experience in real estate and corporate transactional due diligence, compliance counseling, site remediation management, cost recovery, placement of environmental insurance and insurance recovery matters. He advises clients on practical ways to manage the risks and liabilities associated with brownfield properties, focusing on the client’s business goals and objectives.  He has managed matters ranging in size and complexity from the disposition of single contaminated parcels to $100-million plus transactions involving dozens of industrial properties throughout the U.S. and North America. Jim is also experienced in the areas of protective corporate property divestment and sustainable development strategies.

Prior to affiliating with Becker Gurian, Jim practiced in the environmental departments of Katten Muchin Rosenman and DLA Piper, primarily working on transactional matters.  He received his B.A. from DePauw University (Greencastle, Indiana) in 1989, M.A. (Philosophy) from Indiana University in 1991, and J.D. from the DePaul University College of Law in 1997.
